That’s why we provide comprehensive chimney care services, both preventive and restorative. One of the most important services we provide is chimney relining.
What Is The Chimney Liner & Why Do I Need One?
The chimney liner runs the length of the flue and is designed to keep the smoke, heat, and byproducts of the fire from leaking back out into the masonry, surrounding walls, and air supply of the home. By containing these byproducts, the liner works to protect the masonry of your chimney from damage, prevent nearby combustibles from being exposed to high heat and sparks, and prevent carbon monoxide and smoke from infiltrating the air you and your family breathe. The surface of the liner should be smooth and air tight to ensure that smoke and byproducts move up the flue and out of the chimney swiftly.
How Will I Know If My Chimney Needs Relining?
Every chimney flue should have a liner, but unfortunately, chimneys haven’t always been built with liners. If you have an older, historic chimney system, there’s a possibility your system is lacking a liner altogether. If you aren’t sure, one of our Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)-certified chimney professionals will be able to thoroughly inspect your chimney system and let you know if your chimney is unlined.
If you know your chimney has a liner but you aren’t sure whether or not it’s still in good condition, we can help. We’ll inspect the interior of your flue, checking for cracks, holes, or signs of deterioration within your existing liner. Based on our findings, we may recommend one of two relining options:
- HeatShield® – HeatShield® is a cerfractory sealant product that can be used to repair specific areas of your clay tile liner or resurface the liner in its entirety. Learn more about the product and the process here.
- Stainless Steel – Stainless steel liners can be retrofitted into your flue to provide a durable, airtight, smooth new liner surface. These liners are great for chimneys with damaged liners, missing liners, and for those systems needing a flue resize. Learn more about these liners and why they’re worth the investment here.
