All About the Bellfires Fireplace

If you’ve been thinking about major home remodeling but think that redoing a fireplace is just too big of a job, think again. At Chim Cheroo Chimney Service Inc., we can help you make the change over to a new fireplace that will update your home and give your room a whole new look. Not only will it make a difference aesthetically, it will make a difference economically, too.

Progression of Fireplaces

Early on, fireplaces were neither efficient nor necessarily beautiful. They provided heat and an efficient way to cook food. As homes became more elaborate, fireplaces did as well. However, chimneys were, out of necessity, constructed with a wide design. This accommodated for the chimney sweeps who cleared the chimney of soot and debris. This wide design allowed a lot of the room’s heat to be drawn out of the room and the chimney. However, this decreased efficiency and the temperature throughout the house during cold winter months.

An early student of fireplace design, Benjamin Thompson, the Count of Rumford, made modifications to the design of traditional fireplaces, and developed one that burned hotter and cleaner and with less smoke coming into the room. Over the years, more modifications included adjusting the shape of the chimney to increase efficiency and developing a better firebox. Eventually, Bell of England took all the research and designed the Bellfires Fireplace. One important concept that was furthered was the idea of a refractory design. A refractory brick is made of refractory ceramic material. It can withstand high temperature, which of course is very important in a fireplace. It is also an efficient energy source.

If you’re looking for a new look for your room, it’s time to give Chim Cheroo Chimney Service a call. Bellfires Fireplaces come in a variety of designs that add beauty and style to your room. The ceramic-insulated firebox and hearth project more heat into the room. Therefore, the firebox keeps heat in instead of directing it out of the room. Bellfires Fireplaces also produce less creosote. This means less chance of a chimney fire while you’re enjoying your fireplace next winter.

What You Should Know About Bellfire Fireplaces

As spring approaches, sometimes all you need is a change. However, it doesn’t need to be something drastic like a new job or house. There are other things that you can do that can change things up a bit. Maybe a new carpet would make things look new. A little paint can go a long way to clean and brighten things up. Some new furniture can completely change the look of your room as well. You should think about redoing your fireplace if you want a little bit more of a change. Bellfire refractory fireplaces are an excellent upgrade option.

What Does Refractory Mean?

When you plan to make a big purchase, you know it’s important to understand what it is you’re buying. So when talking about a refractory fireplace, you’ll want to know what refractory means. A good definition of this is that it is something that can withstand high heat, and that is definitely something that you want to describe the new fireplace that you’re planning to have installed in your home.

History of Bellfires

Early fireplaces were most certainly not very efficient. They were used as the sole heating sources of the home, but a lot of the heat went right out the chimney. Benjamin Thompson, the Count of Rumford, saw the problems and decided to do some experimenting to see if he could improve this situation. One thing that he realized was that a new design on a fireplace was needed. He changed the traditional design of a fireplace and made a fireplace that was less smoky, cleaner, and hotter.

Others eventually continued to work, update, and improve Count Rumford’s designs. One man who did so was Professor Peter Rosin, who changed the design after conducting scientific tests on air and smoke flow. His changes increased efficiency and functionality, and eventually his information was used by Bell of England to develop what is now known as a Bellfire fireplace .

What Makes Bellfires Great

If you want a traditional look with efficient heating, give a Bellfire fireplace some real thought. The ceramic insulations keeps heat inside the firebox and fireplace. The heat will be reflected back into your room, and that will keep you and your family warmer and more comfortable during the cold days of winter.
